Behind the Scenes

On here, you can study how the series was filmed, espically when it was all done on a single iPhone, along with it's various attachments

Production

A majority of the series was filmed with Aaron Freeman's iPhone 4s, although it was easy and simple, there are a few 'obstacles' he had tread paths on.

The first two episodes were filmed entirely with just the iPhone, with scenes (and the whole series) entirely improvised, but upon starting on Episode D the cast would start to write the episodes, but using the script as a bases for their improvisation.

During production of Episode C, Freeman started using his 'Owle Bubo', a iPhone 4 Solid Aluminium Stability mount to reduce hand Jitter, giving Freeman the ability to film more stable shots.

Although Freeman does nearly all the camera work, whenever he does his scenes requiring his character, he would have other cast members do the camera work, mainly Jamie Carruthers (Quake)

Owle Bubo

Charging Case

During filming, due to the iPhone taking a vast amount of GB, whenever the iPhone runs low on battery, Freeman would place the phone in his Charging case and carry on filming.

Audio Issues

One of the occurring issues during filming is the audio/volume is low, due to the iPhone being notoriously bad at capturing audio, due to the wind or some of the actors not speaking up. Although Freeman considered using an 'iRig Mic' a microphone for the iPhone, to capture better audio/sound distance.

Editing

After filming wrapped, Freeman would proceed with post/editing with 'Windows Live Movie Maker', on his laptop, with the saving process taking up to at least half and hour, although he would later use the iMovie app for the first stage of the editing. Then would insert the sound effects and music on Movie Maker. Prior to 2017, publishing an episode would take up to 6 - 8 hours.

Additionally due to his excitement, Freeman's co-star Kiefer Adams (Iceray) would occasionally create his own cut of the Series Episodes on his PC, which even lead him to film his own shorts focusing on his character, with 'Inner Peace Petrozza', 'Ice Cold Stroll' and 'Where No Ice Lingers' along with his own studio 'KA Studios'.

Freeman would later download the iMovie app and edit the episodes on there and saving the finished scene on his laptop to add the music before uploading. Freeman would keep this trait up to this day to accommodate his studio An Eye for an iPhone. (Having everything done on just the iPhone)

Original Concepts

Episode C -

  • The original episode was attempted to be filmed in January 2015. The original plot was that Jade and Shade would text Oliver, Petrozza and Jim to meet them at Carisbrooke Castle, where they would be tricked into an ambush set by Quake, McLazor and Vibraincia.

  • In the current version of this episode, the original ending was going to end with Episodes A, B and C with the Superlonnys wandering what to do and walk down the street to Michael Jackson’s Beat It.

Episode E -

  • The episodes ending was originally meant to be more brutal, with Iceray, Fireball, Opctard and Quake charging at each other with there fists clenched (with the intend on revealing the result of a superhuman's fist making contact, that nearly happened in Episode B), Tele-Dude would teleport in at the very last instant and would get hit by all 4 characters at once, causing a huge shockwave, killing him instantly and knocking out Quake. The Superlonnys would then walk away announcing the end of the brawl, but Quake would then regain conscience and swear revenge for the death of his half brother.

Episode F (G and H) -

  • Vibraincia was originally meant to have Blaisk's role. But due to the difficulties of finding someone to play her and Kyle Hollinsworth's desire to be involved in the series, the role was replaced with Hollinsworth's and The Hooded Skull was born.

  • Episode's G and H were also meant to be part of said episode, but due to the length of Episode F, the episode had to be 'split' into multiple episodes. Resulting in what Freeman likes to nickname 'The Icicle Blades Trilogy'.

  • The climax of the episode (H) was originally gonna involve a huge battle between Iceray, Fireball, Opctard, Elektra against Quake and Vibraincia (who is revealed to have teamed up with Quake when he convinced her that her half brother Opctard was 'brainwashed' into joining the 'wrong side')

  • Elektra joining 'Team Evil' played out quite differently in the script. The Superlonnys were meant to charge at each other with their fists clenched, but at the last instinct, a resurrected TeleDude teleports in and kisses Elektra hard on the lips, which would result her in siding with Team Evil, It would later be revealed in the original Episode I that TeleDude had some of Blaisk's potion in his mouth when he kissed her, it was also the explanation on how he was brought back to life. But that didn't happen due to the would be awkwardness between Fearn and Payne who broke up prior to production.

Episode I -

  • Jade was intended to have a bigger role in the episode and also had her name changed to Elektricia. Also, Jim, Oliver and the FEDS (French Federal Facility) would start interviewing Vibraincia, Flamely and Elementum.

  • During the interview, Leslie was also planned to use Power Landing.

Origins: Hot Ice/Cold Fire -

  • The original ending would’ve seen giant worms appear from the ground via the potion that Opctard accidentally knocked over and it would’ve been up to Opctard, Iceray and Fireball to defeat them. Afterwards, the trio would leave, as a disapproved Blaisk looks on in the background.

Origins: Electrifying Beginnings -

  • Following on from the moment she gains her powers, the original origins of Elektra was going to see her briefly trained by Blaisk and later be put to the test when she deals with her first encounter of Opctard, Flamely and Vibraincia.

Origins: Elemetum -

  • The original ending of the origins of Henry Chase would’ve seen Shade teleport Oliver to Henry, poke him in the eyes and watch him spin out of control with his Optic Blast. It would then be a two-on-one battle which would then prove what Henry is capable of.

Fued with Adams

Throughout the series progress, Adams started to make himself heavily involved in Freeman's creativity of the series and would occasionally upload shorts focusing on his character, come up with his owns ideas and write scripts for future episodes, all without Freeman's consent, which became very frustrating to him as he sees most of Adams ideas causing continuity errors. Freeman and the rest of the cast saw it as Adam's taking control of the series.

Then around Late March 2016, Freeman messaged Adams about the matter on Facebook and he was not happy about it and started arguing with Freeman, which would lead to a feud that was nicknamed the  ''civil war'' after Captain America: Civil War.

At the time it started, Freeman and some other cast members also fell out with Adams fiancee, Lauren Southwell (Whirlwinzia) following her false allegations of online trolling, which ended with Adams falling out with the cast. As a result for this, An Eye for an iPhone choose to axe Adams from the series.

As a third of Adams stuff for Episodes G and H were filmed, both episodes had to be rewritten with new scenes develop to cover the character's absence and to have Iceray leave the country (and the series) under the orders of Agent Banks following his attempted murder on Quake. Adams made his final appearance during the post credit scene in Episode H, with the use of stock footage from one of Adams filmed shorts.

On November 17th 2017, following Adams and Freeman reconciling, Adams suggested in doing a flashback cameo for his character in Episode J and Freeman decided to include it, as a 'no hard feelings' gesture to Adams and to celebrate the series 10th episode. Iceray made a return 'cameo' appearance in a opening flashback in Episode J, followed by additional Iceray focused shorts, with Freeman's permission.

The pair would later bring the character back in Episode L (the series finale) as a surprise for the fans and to show the character's growth during his exile.

Setbacks on Episode I

Moving on from the fallout, the cast was currently hard at work on the upcoming episode (I), which Freeman describes as 'challenging' as the episode would've insist of 12 characters and will be a prelude to a 'huge showdown' between all the Superlonnys in the finale episode. But during production, numerous setbacks occurred, Freeman fell out with Jackie Fearn (resulting in her character being killed off), Rebecca Sallee (Agent Banks) went on a 3 months holiday in the US and the difficulty of some cast members availability for filming, the episode was rewritten and stock footage was inserted into the episode prior to it's eventual release.

Upgrading Equipment

In late 2016, Freeman purchased an iPhone 6s, which he tested on filming 'Promo E' (Elementum's debut). In order to gain stabilisation with the 6s, Freeman used the iPhone's charging case.

And would later upgrade again in late 2020 for an iPhone 11, due to the phones newely self stabilisation, Freeman would filming Episode L without any case or equipment whatsoever.

Exit with the old, Entrance for the newbies

In late 2017, numerous setbacks occurred during production on Episode I. Freeman fell out with Fearn, when she started behaving sourly towards some of the cast members, leading to her being axed/killed off, Freeman took this as an opportunity to kill off a main character in a bid to raise the stakes for the next episode of the current story-line. Larcombe along with Ryan Payne (Tele-Dude) also left (or 'retired') from the series, claiming they're not having fun anymore, which Freeman respected and inserted an explanation on Fireball's absence in the Episode K Teaser Trailer. Freeman also took this as an opportunity to focus more on the newer characters, (Agents Chrisellda and Roger, Flamley, Vibraincia and Elementum)

Although the latter three would be either written or killed off due to the actors constant unavailability.
